Kalamkari Hand-Block Priting technique is very primitive and is one of the oldest printing techniques in India. It is believed to be in exisitance even before 13th century as historic proofs say that Kalamkari fabrics were found during the time of Mughal rule in India.
Kalamakri process is still manal and uses only traditional methodology to make any Block print fabric. The process mainly include Souring, Myrobalan treatment, First Printing, Washing, Boiling, Second and More printing and Washing. Process is completely nature dependant as lack of sunlight drying leads to rottening of dye. Similarly lack of running canel water will change the dye shade as excessive shades are not removed on the fabrics.
Boiling is another process which is considered as nature's magic as the ingredients in the boil bath will determine the final color on the fabric. As only natural vegetable dyes are used in the Kalamkari process, only natural fiber base fabrics such as Cotton, Linen, Viscose, Modal, Cupramonium etc. can be used for the printing. This is one proof to know if the Kalamkari fabrics are original or not.
